Mom's Red Rose Facial and Scrub Package at the Sonoran Spa

Why It's Good:

From treatment packages (think gift certificate) to pampering products (any of which you can buy via web or phone), mommy-coddling options abound at spas. And really, what's not good about spoiling your mother for the day?

Why It's Green:

The Sonoran Spa achieves eco-cred with organic treatments; ESPA with a near-moratorium on paper, plastic, and foam; and Naturopathica with biodegradable cleaners. As the first and founding spa of the Green Spa Network, Osmosis is making an example of itself with the likes of worm-bin composting and conservation funding.

Think Spa—or Spa Treats—for Ma

Though my mom and I are spending Mother's Day in China (I know!), normally I'd send her to the Sonoran Spa at Tucson's Westward Look Resort. A minute away from my childhood home, where she and my dad still live, this desert retreat offers multiple May specials. Here's one: the Mom's Red Rose Facial and Scrub Package, which includes the Sweet Red Rose Facial, a body scrub, and a Women's Wellness chocolate bar. Meanwhile, at Osmosis—Sonoma's homage to Japan—the Skin Glow Package (a Japanese enzyme bath plus an aromatherapy facial) is going for $185 every Sunday in May (www.osmosis.com). Across the country, at East Hampton's Naturopathica Spa (the vibe: beachy hangout meets old-school apothecary), you'll find five Mother's Day specials. My favorite: the free half-hour reflexology session being tacked on to the signature massage for $150 (www.naturopathica.com). Head approximately 1400 miles south, and you'll hit Miami Beach's ESPA, a sleek, minimalist reprieve from the surrounding hoopla. The Mother's Day special is valid all month: massage, facial and organic lunch for $295 (www.acqualina.com, or www.espaonline.com for products).
