Lead In Your Computer:

Televisions and computer monitors contain between two and eight pounds of lead, and account for an estimated 40% of the lead in landfills, which leaches into the soil and groundwater. To find out where you can discard your old monitors, visit Earth911.org.

Music to Our Ears

I'm trying to simplify my life, which is another way of saying I'm trying to get rid of all the clutter. Sometimes it's hard to say goodbye to things, but I have a rule that if I haven't used it for a year, it goes. Considering that my stereo receiver, CD player, and speakers have all been sitting in a corner of my new home—not hooked up, just sitting there and not looking pretty—for the past 15 months, these are on their way out the door (to a charity, not a landfill). All my good music is on my iPod anyway, which takes up far less space and which I can amplify for company with the stylish new Vers Sound System. There are a lot of sound systems out there these days but the competition consists mostly of sleek plastic that tries to look high-tech. The sustainable wood of the Vers speaker is more in keeping with the retro trend in stereo equipment, the dácor of my house, and my desire for more eco-friendly home goods. The music sounds great, the system looks good, and I've got a lot more space in my living room. Now that's something to sing about.
