Unleash Your Dog's Inner Fashionista
Woof Wear Inc. Dog Collars and Leashes
Featured item: MAY 18, 2007
High-quality, long-lasting, chic accessories to put a little high step in your dog's step this spring and summer.
The fabric collars and leashes are woven by hand, and the company avoids using animal products during production.
We know a dog named Seamus, named after the Nobel prize-winning poet, who happens to be a Boston Terrier. (Though we've always thought of him as an Irishman, it turns out he originally hails from Nebraska. Go figure.) Now that the sun's out, his usual brown nylon collar and leash look drab and dowdy. Putting the "wow" in "bow wow," Woof Wear’s colorful, patterned get-ups in grosgrain ribbon, candy stripes and carefully considered sequins are guaranteed to turn heads and incite longing. They look so sharp, we must confess we had a hard time believing they were really hand-woven. (The patient response from Woofwear owner Vicki Lorayne, whose chihuahua Lola and poodle Phoebe sport her accessories: "The pattern is set on a hand loom and someone pushes the bar back and forth, weaving the fabric!") Seamus has yet to compose any elegies, but we hear he will be rocking the green, black, and white striped ensemble for maneuvering through this urban jungle. Now if only we bipeds could figure out what to wear.
Note: Dog Collars and Leashes range from $25-$46, depending on size.
