Lapa Rios Ecolodge

Lapa Rios Ecolodge

Why It's Good:

Welcome to paradise. Take a hike in the rainforest, kayak in the ocean, or go horseback riding at this ecolodge built amidst the rainforest and 350 feet above the sea. You'll stay in a tranquil bungalow with private bath (there are 16 and we're not talking thatched huts) and feast on gourmet cuisine daily.

Why It's Green:

Lapa Rios is located in Costa Rica on 1,000 acres of private natural reserve that will be preserved through perpetuity, which has made the area a sanctuary for a variety of plants and animals. It employs only local staff, and educates them and guests on the environment, and also built a school for the local children. The bungalows are made of natural materials, 70% of them renewable. Lapa Rios provides and uses products that are biodegradable (shampoo, laundry detergent, etc.). It is vigilant in energy conservation. It uses manual gardening methods only. Lapa Rios also donates profits to environmental and humanitarian causes.
