Why It's Good:
Tourists haven't yet overrun this Caribbean Windward Island that's covered with waterfalls, rivers, lakes and a plethora of fruit-bearing trees (banana, coconut, guava, mango, and papaya) so you can relax to your heart's content. You'll stay in a gorgeous tree-house-like tropical hardwood cottage filled with furnishings made made with cedar from the nearby forest. Hike the 56-acre rainforest sanctuary, read by the pool, take a yoga class, or indulge in the onsite spa's signature coconut oil massage.
Why It's Green:
The resort was constructed from reclaimed volcanic stone and wood, the stonework and intricate details were done by 50 workers from surrounding villages (many of whom were displaced banana workers and are now employed in various capacities at the resort); the restaurant features vegetarian, organic, and locally grown fare; and the spa uses natural ingredients for its decadent spa treatments. The company also provides competitive wages and education and training to their staff.
