  • Betsey Johnson's Pink Pad
style icon betsy johnson has been designing fierce, fun and fabulous clothes – let's call them wild wears – for 30 years. she sold a divine apartment on new york's lower fifth avenue a few years ago, a place that was fit for a fashion princess. we adore the dining room where she once wined and dined in – it's all decked in a deliciously delicate shade of pink. we cast our net to find some eco furnishings that could fulfill the look in, say, your own spunky mod dining room. could not be prettier in pink a zero-voc paint should be (and will soon be) the norm as the wallcovering industry moves forward to get toxicities out of our homes. tres pretty in a special pink, this paint has very little odor, making it one of the safest, smile-inducing paints on the market. fun focal point on the wall made from recycled wine barrels, this round mirror can be ordered in ebony to give it the look of the mirror in betsy's old dining room. dining with the stars you need a little plain to bring out the pulchritude of, say, the color of the walls, or the shape of the chairs. this  bamboo table from crate & barrel (right on with their sustainable selves!) does the trick better than most. masterpiece centerpiece simple can be stunning. throw a slew of pink roses, petunias, gerber daisies, or tulips into a simple round vessel. this one happens to have been whipped up by coppersmiths using reclaimed copper. showpiece seating note how a retro-fabulous 1966 classic chair is set off by the simple dark wood table. pretty pricey if vintage, a reproduction chair can always be upholstered using eco-friendly fabric. we are hoping some furniture designer will soon steal this look and make a version in recycled steel. like walking on art what lies beneath your dining guests' feet would, in an ideal world, be an organic wool rug dyed with pomegranates, oak, indigo or chamomile, like one of sustainable designer christian rathbone's amazing creations.
