Wallpaper for an Adventuress
An Aussie with moxie, Florence Broadhurst at different points in her life was a comedy star, an educator in Shanghai, a Bond Street fashion force known as Madame Pellier, an exhibited painter and...wait for it...a wallpaper designer who after dominating the decorating world during the '60s and '70s, was murdered, possibly by a serial killer. Serious glam hunters understand that a little ghoulishness adds a patina to any provenance. Florence Broadhurst papers don't disappoint, for all that livin' comes out as stylin' in her hand-painted, flamboyantly chic designs. Horses, gingko leaves, chrysanthemums, orchids, and egrets come alive in lovely details and subtly brilliant colors. You may not want to go all Flo—four walls of any pattern, even a perfectly executed one, can overwhelm—but for an accent or statement wall, or even a DIY paper screen, you will not fail to astonish the eye. Then getting out and bringing home stories to make the wallpaper curl is up to you.
