Project Three Storey Sparrow House

Why It's Good:

This one’s for the birds: a three-storied perching spot that has such a weather-beaten, romantic look that it might make you think of shipwrecked sailors.

Why It's Green:

This bird house is handmade from recycled wood and slate, protected by a non-toxic wood stain, and delivered in a recycled cardboard box. The mission of Hastings & Bexhill Wood Recycling Project is to keep landfills clear of waste wood. Volunteers and local unemployed trainees are recruited to build the houses; in return, they gain skills designed to help them find work. So for the price of a bird house, you get a labor of social and environmental love.
