Tilapia Is Tops :

Unlike most farm-raised fish, which must eat other fish to grow, tilapia is an omnivore that can thrive on soy, corn, wheat, algae and plant waste. Plus, tilapia farms can be housed indoors where resulting wastewater and pollution are better controlled. Thirty thousand pounds of tilapia can be raised on just three acres annually — the same amount of space it takes to raise one 650-pound cow. — Slowfoodnation.org

Georgette Bee Gold Pump and Pop

Georgette Bee Gold Pump and Pop

Why It's Good:

Add some spark to your stride: Gold shoes are stampeding off the runway and into stores—check out the chunky gorgeousness of the peep-toe pump from YSL, or the delicate versatility of Stuart Weitzman's "Delovely" evening sandals. The only drawback is, everybody knows these icons already. Why not go with someone new, and step out in these molten lovelies?

Why It's Green:

Georgette's designers use the best animal-friendly materials, including luxurious Italian and Spanish faux leathers.

Where To Get It:

To browse Georgette's shoes, click here. You can buy directly off their site and they will ship to anywhere in the U.S. You may need to convert your shoe size from American to European; for that, click here. If the shoes don't fit, you can return them; Georgette says they will be more than happy to send you another size—if it's in stock!—and they won't charge for the second shipment. If it is not in stock, you can choose a different style, or opt for a refund. Aren't they nice?

There's Gold in Them Shoes

Putting in a pre-order for a pair of Natalie Portman's gorgeous vegan shoes for Te Casan makes me nervous—it's a case of delayed style gratification (not to worry, I'll get over it for her perfect Pixie navy satin ballet flats). It's yet another leap to buy shoes online from another country, yet these gleaming Georgette booties and pumps are just too tempting not to take the plunge. Belgian twin sisters Katleen and Liesbet Baum became vegetarians at 12, fantasized about making non-leather fashion and shoes, and then made it happen with lots of research, visits to international shoe fairs, and talking to suppliers about their ideas. Along the way, they discovered material like the breathable, antibacterial Italian cotton-backed polyurethane that makes these sleek timeless pumps and slouchy-ruched, superhero-stylish ankle booties sing. Gold and gray is what I'm craving this winter—the combination of glitz with sobriety makes me bananas—so I see charcoal pin-stripe cuffed wide trousers to set off the booties, and heathered tights for the pumps with a slim kick-pleated slate mini-skirt. The pumps are so amazing, I could wear them with any special-occasion dress and bare legs when the weather turns warmer. So shod yourself in gold while they last!
