Energy Smart compact fluorescent lightbulb: 13 Watt (12-pack)

Why It's Good:

Like to keep the midnight oil burning? Make sure you do it with compact fluorescents (a.k.a. CFLs). Saves the planet, and saves you money, so you can devour that can't-put-downer novel with a tad less guilt.

Why It's Green:

Using CFLs is globally recognized as one the hugest and easiest ways to slash wasteful energy use. In Australia, the trusty incandescent bulb will soon—in less than three short years—be outlawed completely. CFLs may cost a bit more out of the box, but make the switch and you'll soon see savings. A single CFL bulb will save you some $35 in energy costs over its lifespan, not to mention the cost of the conventional bulbs (eight) you'd use in its place. This 13-watt bulb puts out the same light as a 60-watter, but lasts eight times longer.
