Used in many deodorants, moisturizers, makeup and shampoos, these preservatives have been linked to breast cancer. Read labels and choose products that don't contain parabens (methyl-, butyl- or propyl-).

The Rock Spa

Why It's Good:

Indulge in a luxury botanical spa treatment at this clifftop sanctuary on a private island in the Seychelles, a chain of islands set in the brilliant blue Indian Ocean.

Why It's Green:

The resort was constructed with a careful eye toward conservation of the native flora and fauna of the island, which continues to be a top priority. No more than forty guests at a time are allowed to share the island with such rare species as the Magpie Robin, Aldabra Giant Tortoise, and Flying Fox. Spend the day participating in an island conservation program or just kick off your sandals and flop on the clean sand and bliss out. The spa and restaurants use only the freshest local ingredients—like lemongrass and sweet coconut milk—for treatments and meals.
