Foley+Corinna, Heather Heron and Teich bags

Why It's Good:

Neutral, natural-textured classically shaped bags go with everything—black, brights and even more neutrals. What's lovely about these bags is that they have a little extra character to them—be it gold-flecked linen, a braided handle, or the burlap-chic version of an iconic trendy tote.

Why It's Green:

Foley + Corinna City Totes are seen on the arms of many a trendy girl, but here we hail her eco-chic Country Tote version made of recycled coffee burlap bags. Teich, a new collection, uses leather that's vegetable-tanned or vintage, and lines it with organic cotton, while Heather Heron, a new designer, brings a fresh perspective by juxtaposing her organic European hemp with luxurious glints of gold and leather accents.

Where To Get It:

For Foley + Corinna, call their store at 212-529-2338. To get a stores listing for purchasing any of the other two bags, click on the designer name or collection.

In the Bag for Spring

Birkenstocks, hemp and burlap all used to be the punch line for a joke about green fashion—the idea being, there could be no such thing, i.e., green could not be fashionable. But here's how funny fashion is: Once the industry started realizing that, yes, green can be fashionable and is actually quite cutting edge, they began to make beautiful pieces out of exactly those things. Think Giorgio Armani's hemp suits, patent-leather Birkenstocks (patent's not exactly eco, but hey, they were trying), and now Foley + Corinna's limited edition Country Tote (right), $444—each one is made from a different coffee burlap. This silhouette is (still) all the rage among young, urban professional women, and now they can signal their eco-consciousness—added cachet, these days—with the latest version made out of recycled coffee burlap bags. We're also mad for Heather Heron's lovely hemp clutches (center), which look and feel like luxurious linen, and for Teich's smart Day Satchel (left), with their simple geometric lines and adorably sturdy braided handles. All look great no matter where you're going, and we're not talking about the hippie commune—not that there's anything wrong with that.
