Why It's Good:

Buffalo Exchange is a secondhand shop more apt to draw hipsters than cute, little old ladies. The store accepts quality used clothing and accessories for trading or cash, and the constant rotation of inventory means you can find vintage, designer and one-of-a-kind duds on a regular basis.

Why It's Green:

Buffalo Exchange does their good deed for the earth by giving used clothes a second life outside of landfills. But that's only the beginning. In 1994, the company created Tokens For Bags—a program that encourages customers to accept a token instead of a plastic bag, which can take up to 1,000 years to decompose. For every token accepted, five cents is donated to a local, nonprofit agency. To date, Buffalo Exchange has donated $265,000 to nonprofit groups, and saved five million plastic bags from going into landfills. Buffalo Exchange also has a sale every Earth Day where everything is marked down to $1 and all proceeds—over $200,000 since 1997—go to an environmental organization of their choosing.
