Conscientious Caviar:

Farm-raised sturgeon caviar is a great alternative to caviar from the Caspian Sea, where Beluga sturgeon have become so overfished for their eggs, they're on the verge of extinction. And unlike farmed salmon roe, cultivated sturgeon isn't raised in pens in open water, but in tanks on land, where waste can be more easily disposed of. — Slowfoodnation.org

Organic Baking Cocoa

Why It's Good:

For the Betty Crocker in all of us, this is a great cocoa for those decadent double-chocolate-espresso brownies you've been dying to make and serve (not to mention, eat).

Why It's Green:

This organic cocoa is made from shade-grown (wildlife-friendly) cacao trees that are cultivated by a small cooperative using chemical-free farming methods. Founded in 1986, Equal Exchange has long been a proponent of Fair Trade principles, with a mission to "build long-term trade partnerships that are economically just and environmentally sound, to foster mutually beneficial relationships between farmers and consumers." Meaning you can be assured that the cocoa goodies you're enjoying came from farmers who harvested the beans under safe working conditions and were paid fairly for their labor and product. This cocoa is also vegan.
