Why It's Good:
Nicole Linton's è bella line of hand-woven Peruvian pillows and rugs are a splendid dichotomy of modern design and old world execution. Having worked with a community of weavers in the high Andes for over ten years, her designs are inspired from pre-Columbian patterns to the Bauhaus work of Anni Albers. Discerning dwellers will love her sharp, lush and abstract style—and the lifetime guarantee.
Why It's Green:
Alpaca fleece is a highly-valued sustainable fiber. Raised by independent farmers and cooperatives, the Peruvian alpaca roams freely in the mountains while grazing on indigenous plants. The fleece naturally contains oils that protect against dirt and staining.
Where To Get It:
Brick pillow (pictured, top right) and Teal.Orange pillow (pictured, bottom right) range in price from $150-$190, depending on backing and other options. Due to sizing, the Myriad chocolate/sky rug (pictured, left) is available upon request. To order any èbella designs, call 303-442-6226 or email kelly@ebelladesigns.com.
Go Barefoot, Be Bella With Groovy Rugs and Pillows
It's a luscious dream: I wake up early in the morning on my farm, the money to run it having been provided by a substantial trust fund from stodgy old relatives I never knew I had. I think I'm even wearing overalls. La-di-da! I pick a sprig of lavender from my herb garden and head off to feed my pets, a slew of alpacas with their own state-of-the-art solar-powered barn. It's time to bring in the fleece and send it to the weaver to make some pretty pillow covers. This is where I wake up and I realize a farm would never fit into my studio apartment.
To assuage my Farmer Al complex, I pick up a beautiful catalogue by è bella, which is brimming with a stunning line of hand-knotted Peruvian alpaca rugs and pillows. The colors and designs are modern and chic, the Baby Suri line of furry fleece (pillow pictured, middle right; starts at $280) sends me into a state of comforting hypnosis. Okay, I console myself, I can order a Brick or Baby Suri pillow to spruce up my white faux-leather chairs. So maybe it's not woven from my alpacas, but even better, each piece is imbibed with the spirit of the Andean weavers who made it.—Allison Reynolds
