Deepdale Backpackers Hostel

Why It's Good:

Located on a working farm—which in 2004 was voted the most beautiful farm in Britain—and built around a partially covered stable courtyard, the restored 17th century buildings of this hostel really make you feel like you're in England. Go to the beach and bask in the sun or play some watersports. Quench your thirst with a local beer at a nearby pub and lunch on fresh seafood (try the mussels—the village is famous for them).

Why It's Green:

The hostel engages in environmental and energy conservation including the use of low-flow water devices and solar panels for all accommodations; and it is currently exploring new forms of water recycling, wind turbines, and bio-diesel fuel. The hostel also offers countryside stewardship walks and weekend conservation programs.
