All Your Favorite Party Snacks
Even if you're not a junk food junkie (like me), chances are there are days when you crave a salty snack, or when you have company and the bowls you put it are calling your name. Now you can indulge, and know that they're a little healthier for you. I assumed the identity of a nutty scientist (okay, maybe I just assumed the scientist part) to conduct an experiment in New York City's Central Park. My goal was to find out if people could tell the difference between their favorite junk food snacks and the natural and organic versions of the same snacks. I lined up bowls with original and organic Cheetos, Orville Redenbacher popcorn, Tostitos, Kettle Chips, and Pace salsa, and had test subjects taste each without knowing which was which. I closely observed and collected my data. The results? Most people tended to like the original versions better. However, that's not to say that the more natural snacks weren't tasty. When participants learned that one version was better for them (and better for the environment) they almost unanimously agreed they'd opt for the healthier snacks. It doesn't take a mad scientist to figure out that although we like what we're used to, if a better-for-you version tastes great, it's painless to make the switch and oblige your body—as well as your taste buds. —Victoria Lewis
