This week, Oprah Winfrey decided to end her foray into the vegan lifestyle. One of the most powerful women in the world, the big O tried a 21-day vegan "detox" that had the potential to persuade millions of Americans to give up beef, cheese and leather in favor of tofu dogs and soy milk. The media tycoon ultimately decided the no-animal-products way was more of a temporary health choice than a lifelong dedication. She still gets applause from us for alerting the public to eating habits that were previously considered the sole domain of treetop-living ascetics.
