Water Saver:

Fill half of your sink with water for washing dishes instead of letting your tap run. According to the American Water Works Association, the average U.S. household uses 130,000 gallons of water per year. If they used just 50% less, we could save the equivalent of seven million barrels of oil per year.

Virgin Gorda

Why It's Good:

This is the perfect destination for active travelers looking for the classic beach vacation, since the primary activities on the island revolve around sun, sand and sail. As for newlyweds, the Bitter End Yacht Club may not sound like an ideal honeymoon spot, but don't let the name deter you. The property provides old-school comforts like shabby chic cottages, fresh-seafood meals and fruity rum cocktails at sundown.

Why It's Green:

The Bitter End Yacht Club has been environmentally conscious for more than 40 years — way before "green" became a buzz word. Recently, the resort has refined the means by which it generates its own electricity, and collects and distills its own water, providing a less rustic, more comfortable stay for guests. In addition, the Yacht Club utilizes solar power and irrigates its hillside gardens with treated "grey" water.
