Lisa Ling's wedding is proof that you no longer have to follow the rules. She and Paul Song went for an "Asian chic" style for their 2007 nuptials in L.A. Here's how to get a minimal yet breathtaking look for a modern, fashion-forward wedding.
LISA'S HAIR
The organic honey and marshmallow root in Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam, $18, add weightless volume. Apply to wet roots.
To guarantee silky, shiny hair, work in a smoothing cream like vegan Jonathan Green Rootine Silkening Crème, $24.
With your hair dryer on full blast, flip your head over and blow out your hair until it's 80% dry. Then clip your hair up. Working from bottom to top and back to front, let out small sections at a time and use a round brush to smooth hair as you dry. For added body and a little curl, wrap 1-2 inch sections around a round brush like the Aveda Jumbo Ceramic Round Brush, $23, made of 100% post-consumer recycled material. Blast each wrapped piece for a few seconds before unwinding and moving on to the next.
LISA'S MAKEUP
Create a subtle smoky eye with mineral-based purple and pink hues like Jane Iredale Brown Sugar Triple Eye Shadow, $27. Use the darkest color along your lash line. Then use the middle shade sweeping it into the crease and blending with the darker color thoroughly. Add the light color under your brow arch.
Draw attention to your eyes with a black liquid eyeliner from eco brand Dr. Hauschka, $16.95, along your top lash line. Curl lashes and brush 100% organic Suki Rich Pigment Mascara in Black Velvet, $34, on your top lashes.
To create dramatic focus, finish off the look with a plum-hued lipstick like Sally Hansen's Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Color Comfort Lip Color in Plum Rose, $10.
