Really Dirty Diapers:

Buy reusable cloth diapers not only for a cleaner environment (disposables can take 250-500 years to decompose), but also for the health of your baby. The average parent uses 6,000 - 8,000 disposable diapers before their child is potty-trained. These diapers contain sodium polyacrylate, the same substance removed from tampons in 1985, and dioxin, listed by the EPA as the most toxic of all cancer-linked chemicals.

Kooba organic cotton tote

Why It's Good:

It's baaack….The Kooba limited edition eco-chic tote at Barneys sold out as if it was an Hermes Birkin bag. The bag blogoverse and InStyle.com coveted, and then, poof!, it was gone.

Why It's Green:

Made out of 100% organic cotton canvas, which means the cotton was grown without the use of chemical pesticides and insecticides, and edged in metallic cork, a sustainable, rapidly renewable material.

The Most Wanted Summer Bag …Is Back

One way you can tell you've entered the Sprig.com section of the office is that we're often complimenting and congratulating each other on our vintage, vegan and eco-friendly finds and bargains. A morning ritual of support and encouragement, this is the opposite of Devil Wears Prada rivalry and envy, although perhaps almost as amusing to witness (a blanket apology to Slate and Newsweek if we've forgotten ourselves and gotten a little loud, and even, forgive us, chirpy and squeal-y). Except when we saw one of Sprig.com's hard-working, brilliant publicists, Aimee Yoon, walk in with a Kooba organic cotton tote in natural canvas. Verbal rays of barely-suppressed jealousy shot out: "How did you get that?!" "I thought they were all sold out!!" "Who do you know at Barneys?" Then we remembered ourselves, and that being environmentally minded is not about buying more stuff, but less, and knowing your eco-options when you buy anything at all. Simmering down, we waited….and now we need suppress our longing no more. Back in production, the Kooba is available at Barneys.com, and we intend to be very, very good, and skimp here and there till we feel flush enough to go in for the kill. Now that we know our object of affection is within reach, we feel magnanimous enough to open our ears to Aimee's endorsements. She claims to have worn the bag for three months straight, loves it because it's a strong, attractive carry-all for her computer as she goes back and forth from the office to home, and even stashes her resusable bottle in one of the side pockets without worrying it will spill over onto her other stuff. "I was nervous at first that it might be a dirt magnet, but it hasn't been hard keeping it clean," she says. "There was one little spot that came off easily with a little soap and water, and I don't even see any New York City dinginess. The bottom isn't even that dirty and I set it down everywhere." Viva la Kooba!
