Jacques Torres
Chocolates
Why They're Good:
Jacques Torres is known for his fanciful artisanal chocolates, especially during holidays like Easter, when he creates grinning five-foot-tall bunnies! Thankfully, more-portable versions of this deliciously creamy chocolate are available in full-size bars, featuring flavors like Barry White, the spicy Wicked Bar (which makes an amazing hot chocolate in winter, by the way), Brulée Crunch and Gingerette.
Why They're Green:
Jacques Torres' window-front chocolate factory, located in lower Manhattan, crafts the chocolate in small batches, from bean to bar. When Jacques opened his dream factory-cum-store in 2004, he installed vintage machines from Mexico, Italy and Venezuela — including repurposing a lipstick refiner for use in the chocolate-making process.
Only all-natural ingredients — some locally sourced; some, like peanut butter, made by Jacques himself — make it into these bars, and absolutely no artificial flavorings or preservatives are added.
