Grilled Banana Split Sundae recipe

After you're done with cooking on the grill, scrape it well, then use the remaining heat to make this dessert. Choose your favorite hot fudge specialty sauce and warm it in a pan of hot water before drizzling it over the ice cream.—Susie Quick

Serves 8

  • 8 firm-ripe organic bananas, unpeeled
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 quart premium vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup premium hot fudge topping, heated
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted (optional)
  • Whipped cream to taste

1. Slice the bananas in half lengthwise – do not peel them. Brush honey on cut sides.

2. Grill bananas, cut side down, on the rack of grill over low heat, until grill marks appear (1 to 2 minutes). Turn bananas over and grill about 3 minutes longer until the skin just starts to pull away from banana.

3. Remove banana peel and place bananas in serving bowls. Quickly top with 2 scoops of ice dream, and fudge sauce. Add nuts and whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately.
