People and the Planet:

Environmental devastation can lead to war...and worse. Global warming helped bring on the drought in Darfur, which caused farmers and herders to fight for limited land resources. Battle lines were drawn along ethnic lines, leading to today's genocide crisis. By reducing our carbon dioxide output, we can slow global warming. If you drive a hybrid, you can save 16,000 lbs. of CO2 and $3,750 per year.

Sheer Linen Shower Curtain

Why It's Good:

It's breezy, see-through scrim-like appearance gives the curtain the look of decorative window sheer when used with a light liner. Nature-inspired colors emphasize the textural pattern of the linen's web and weft, giving it a rustic, old-Europe look.

Why It's Green:

Biodegradable unbleached and undyed linen is one of the most eco-friendly choices (in Oatmeal; the other linen colors get their hues from low-VOC dyes, which are less toxic than regular fabric dyes). The curtain is hung from reinforced buttonholes instead of metal grommets, which can rust and shorten the life of the curtain.
