If Michelle Obama is following in Jackie O.'s footsteps, Cindy McCain's First Lady-maybe style recalls that of Nancy Reagan. Frequently donning skirt suits and dresses by high-end designers, she's not afraid to accessorize with serious bling. In fact, the media took McCain to task during the Republican Convention for wearing an outfit that, including a saffron Oscar de la Renta shirtdress, tallied up to more than $300,000.

Her fashion choices may cost more than most American homes, but posh attire suits McCain. "Cindy, always swathed in bold colors and rich fabrics, is not afraid to take risks," concedes designer Bahar Shahpar.

Still, the media's focus on her expensive taste might be getting to McCain. Lately, her style has taken a more sophisticated, modern turn with stand-out tailoring and funky plaids. Shoes are another area where McCain seems to be cutting back — she's been photographed at numerous events in what we can only assume is her favorite pair of beige pumps.
