Why It's Good:

Travelers seeking spiritual enlightenment should head to this Indonesian island, and book a stay at the COMO Shambhala Estate at Begawan Giri. This spa-resort-temple, nestled in the Balinese jungle, comes with its own natural spring (called the Source). Life coaches, energy healers, yoga masters, and Pilates instructors sometimes outnumber guests, and the retreat works closely with a selection of visiting masters. But it's not all higher enlightenment and inner peace: Guests who are feeling sufficiently centered can opt to spend the day surfing at Kuta beach instead.

Why It's Green:

This eco retreat turns to the local terroir as its source of food. The chefs are committed locavores, and refrain from using anything that needs to be flown in from distant shores. To this end, the resort employs members of its local community to procure fresh ingredients for the kitchen on a daily basis.
