10 Ways to Get Out Green in the South This Fall
Autumn across the South means still-warm days but cooler nights. It's not quite yet time to break out the organic wool sweaters, but fall is in the air. Since Southern folks just want to have fun going green, we've put together a list of easy, earth-friendly activities you indulge in.
1. Go Natural
Sometimes a body just has to relax, kick back and de-stress with some pampering. A visit to a Natural Body Spa & Shoppe might be just what you need. With locations across the South, this spa offers natural and nurturing services and products, while protecting the environment, too.
2. Wander Green
Soak up the cacophony of autumn colors on a Skyline Drive Leaf Tour. Take a lazy ride along this 105-mile National Scenic Byway and experience Mother Nature at her finest. To make your drive really eco-friendly, rent a hybrid. Many major chains now include the Honda Prius and other hybrid cars in their selection, but availability is sketchy. Good news, though, you can be almost as eco-friendly by just renting one of the top 12 environmentally friendly cars by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards…many of them aren't even hybrids!
3. Get Involved
Want to learn more about the sustainable lifestyle? Visit The Green Festival in Washington, D.C, on November 8-9. View the latest earth-friendly films, attend lectures by top eco celebrities and check out the latest green products.
4. Eat Local
You can visit a farmers' market in just about any city across the country, but if you're in Austin, Texas, you can visit one of the fastest-growing markets around. Filled with yummy produce and ready-to-eat Tex-Mex favorites, gaping and grazing at the Sunset Valley Farmers Market is de rigueur.

5. Head for the Water
Social-minded Southern runners can make a difference in October. Join the Blue Planet Run and clock 30 miles in 30 days, starting October 1, to raise money for the one in six people who lack daily access to safe drinking water. Join the fun in Clemson, South Carolina, or find a group of runners on your part of the planet.
